Unlucky Ambrose at Pocono [video]

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

After running a great race for 150+ laps, Marcos was looking at a top 10 finish at Pocono in the Pennsylvania 500 in his iRacing.com car when eventual race winner Denny Hamlin turns Marcos’ team-mate David Reutimann out of turn 3 taking Marcos out in the process which effectively finished his race.

“Not sure what happened there. We were running in the top-10 and all of a sudden David (Reutimann) got turned by the 11 (Denny Hamlin) car and I had nowhere to go. That pretty much ended our day.”

On the plus side, Marcos got a lot of TV coverage running up front (and even leading for a lap) which is great for iRacing and the car looked awesome out there!

Some big news from iRacing to promote iRacing in Australia and New Zealand.

They are partnering with former V8 Supercars champion and current NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Marcos Ambose to promote iRacing down under.

“iRacing is an amazing simulation system and it has helped me enormously as I’ve tackled my first year in NASCAR Sprint Cup competition,” said Ambrose. “It’s the closest thing to racing in the physical world that you can get. There is a growing list of professional drivers — including guys I race against every week, like A.J. Allmendinger, Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. — who use iRacing.com to fine–tune their skills, especially before heading to a particular track.”

iRacing’s Executive producer, Steve Myers, announced plans to expand the content;

“As this relationship develops we expect to add local tracks and cars that will then be available to iRacers all over the world.”

Chris Page, iRacing.com’s Vice President of Technology has also announced that Australia will be the first area outside of the USA to have it’s own dedicated iRacing servers;

“We have quite a few members in Australia and New Zealand already, and we expect that number to grow sharply over the next few months. The opening of the new servers will help ensure that all of our customers have the best possible online racing experience.”

iRacers dominated the top positions in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Aaron’s 499 on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway;

  1. Brad Keselowski
  2. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
  3. Ryan Newman (not an iRacer. Booo!)
  4. Marcos Ambrose

No word on whether the guys used the recently released Talladega track to prepare for the race but if Dale Jr. did we’ll get to know about it pretty soon, he’s never shy about  promoting iRacing!
